Panos Tsopelas is the Quality Manager of the Laboratory of Strength and Materials which is accredited by ESYD for fire resistance tests according to EN 1634-1. He is also Associate Professor on "Dynamics of Structural Systems” in the Department of Mechanics of the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the National Technical University of Athens.

He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the NTUA. (1989) and holds an MSc (1991) as well as a Doctorate (PhD 1994) from the University at Buffalo. Dr. Tsopelas has been Professor (2013-2015) and Associate Professor (2008-2013) at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Thessaly; Associate Professor (2003–2008) and Assistant Professor (1998–2003) in the Department of Civil Engineering, The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, USA.

Dr. Tsopelas’ research interests and activities include Structural Dynamics, Structural Mechanics, Earthquake Engineering, Seismic Isolation, Experimental Structural Mechanics/Dynamics, Computational Structural Mechanics/Dynamics, Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction, Energy Dissipation Systems, Seismic Design, Health and Vibration Monitoring of Structural systems, Honeycomb and Re-entrant metamaterials for Vibration Mitigation of Structural Assemblies under Seismic Actions.

Dr. Tsopelas is a member of scientific associations: Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), Association of Civil Engineers of Greece (SPME), Hellenic Association for Earthquake Engineering (HAEE), Hellenic Society for Theoretical & Applied Mechanics (HSTAM.), European Association for Earthquake Engineering (ΕΑΕΕ), ASCE Hellenic Section. He is a reviewer of international scientific journals: ASCE Journal of Engineering Mechanics; ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering; Journal of Engineering Structures; MCEER Technical Publications; Earthquake Spectra, EERΙ; Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures; Archive of Applied Mechanics, and more. He is an evaluator of research proposals in the framework of programs of the Ministry of Education, Reviewer of Research Proposals for National Science Foundation, USA (1999-2007).
