 Short CV

Dr. Christos Markides is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanics of the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences of National Technical University of Athens (SAMPS, NTUA). He graduated from the School of Civil Engineering of Democritus University of Thrace (1991). He holds a M.Sc. degree in “Engineering and Technological Applications” from the Department of Mechanics of SAMPS NTUA (2001), and a Doctoral Degree in “Engineering” also from the Department of Mechanics of SAMPS NTUA (2009).

Since 1992 he has worked as a civil engineer in the private and public sector. In parallel, since 2006, he has collaborated with the Laboratory for Testing and Materials of the Department of Mechanics of SAMPS of NTUA and participated as post-doctoral researcher in several funded scientific projects. During 2018–2022 served as a member of the teaching and researching staff of SAMPS of NTUA as an Assistant Professor.

His research activity comprises: application of analytical methods in the solution of practical problems of plane linear Elasticity for intact and pre-cracked bodies, the evaluation of mechanical response of isotropic and anisotropic elastic materials with emphasis in the estimation of the tensile strength of geomaterials, and the application of the optical method of caustics in the study of the stress field in contact and stress concentration problems in elastic media.

Dr. Markides has also contributed in organizing the laboratory of the optical method of caustics at the Laboratory for Testing and Materials of the Department of Mechanics of SAMPS of NTUA.
He is author and co-author of over 100 scientific works in international scientific journals and conferences (with over 50 papers in international peer-reviewed journals), and reviewer in 14 international scientific journals. His research has over 500 citations (Scopus) in international literature.

Dr. Markides has participated in the organizing committee of 2 international symposia with Greek Society of Experimental Mechanics of Materials (GSEMM), and he is a member of the council of GSEMM.
